GIRLS RECREATIONAL PLAY:
WHAT IS ‘BRING YOUR TEAM’
We at Yorba Linda NJB are very excited to announce the ‘Bring Your Team’ format for all Girl Recreational Divisions.
The goal is simple, to allow our volunteer coaches to coordinate the signing up of up to ten girls and keep them together for the divisional season. This, as previously mentioned, applies to all levels of play, Divisions 1 (7th/8th), 2 (5th/6th) & 3 (3rd/4th).
This is unprecedented for the Recreational Division and is an exciting opportunity!!!
QUALIFICATIONS:
In order to qualify for 'Bring Your Team' all participants must not (during the Winter Season) be participating on any All Net, AAU or Club level type basketball team.
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO PART OF A TEAM AND OR ASSOCIATED WITH A COACH TO REGISTER?
No, each child, if not associated with a coach, will be put into the draft pool, will attend the player evaluation day, and will then be subsquently picked by one of the volunteer coaches for their respective division.
WHAT IF I WOULD LIKE TO COACH AND DO NOT HAVE A TEAM AND LESS THAN 5 GIRLS WHO WOULD LIKE TO STAY TOGETHER - WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO COACH AND FORM A TEAM?
Yes; by attending player evaluation day, each coach will be able to see the other girls in their respective grade division who have not been placed on a team and will be able to then draft accordingly on draft night to fill the team roster. Availability of girls in each respective age division is always subject to the total number of registrations. The Yorba Linda NJB Chapter asks that a team roster not exceed ten (10) players and not be less than seven (7) players and that all players satisfy the above mentioned Qualification(s) requirements.
WHAT DO I TELL THE PARENTS WHEN THEY REGISTER THAT THEY WILL BE PLACED AND CONFIRMED TO BE ON MY TEAM?
We ask at this time for all volunteer girls head coaches for all the respective divisions to e-mail a list of names of the players that they are going to have sign up and subsequently keep together. E-mail to the Girls Player Agent as soon as possible. Once these e-mails are received, they will be confirmed, then the girls along with the coach are required to attend the Player Evaluation Day for final confirmation.
ARE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES TO ATTEND THE PLAYER EVALUATION DAY?
Yes; this is important for the following reasons; 1) it is mandatory, 2) to be fitted for a correct jersey size (3) confirm requested player rosters, proper player registration and player payment and (4) to evaluate other girls who have signed up and need to be placed/drafted on team within their respective recreational division. Please check the NJB Yorba Linda website www.yorbalindanjb.com to confirm the mandatory player evaluation date and time(s).
DO COACHES HAVE TO ATTEND THE PLAYER DRAFT NIGHT IF THEIR ROSTER ALREADY HAS A MINIMUM OF EIGHT GIRLS OR HAS THE MAXIMUM OF 10?
Yes; to ensure placement of remaining girls for all divisions. Teams with eight may need to take one or two players from a draft pool. Coaches that already have ten on their team will also be required to be in attendance to finalize all contact information for their respective team rosters.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE GAMES?
Games for the all girls divisions will take place on both Saturdays and Sundays with 40-60% of games taking place at either Lasorda Field House or TravisRanchMiddle School. This is subject to the finalization of the Inter league schedule with the immediately adjacent NJB Chapter Cities. Games will generally begin in late November or early December and end in February.
WHAT IS AN INTER-LEAGUE SCHEDULE?
Due to girl’s recreational division enrollment numbers fluctuating year to year, the teams will travel locally for 40-60% of its games to a neighboring city to play against girls in that cities local NJB Chapter. The teams that our Yorba Linda teams will play against will be from Placentia, Brea, Fullerton, La Habra and Anaheim. The Inter League Schedule is developed based on the gymnasium times and days available with each respective city. All the Chapter Directors from their respective city meet to review and finalize this with the NJB Regional Director for NorthOrangeCounty.
WILL OUR GIRLS BE PLAYING AGAINST ALL NET TEAMS?
NO, all other cities that will be participating, will field teams that are made up of recreational players as well.
IS THERE A POST SEASON TOURNAMENT THAT OUR GIRLS CAN PLAY IN?
.
ARE THERE ALL STARS TEAMS FORMED FOR OUR GIRLS ? HOW ARE THEY SELECTED?
Yes; depending on the number of teams for each respective division, All Star teams and players begin to be formed and nominated respectively during the last three weeks of the recreational winter season.
All Star teams are selected based on the respective Yorba Linda Coach who has the best comparative record, that coach will generally be named the All-Star Coach. If he/she declines then the coach with the next best winning record will be offered the position. All-Star players are selected from nominations received from each of the division’s head coaches and its players. All rosters must be approved by the Board of Directors. All-Star teams compete against other NJB Chapter All-Stars in a round robin type format with winners qualifying to play in NJB’s National All-Star Tournament.
